Efficiency of coal plants in terms of CO2 emissions

The SUEZ Group has a duty to sustain the flexibility that today characterizes its electricity production capacity, even though carbon restrictions keep mounting. SUEZ and its subsidiary Electrabel are thus studying the promising advantages of CO2 capture, which is still technically very costly and energy hungry. For this reason, the Group is investing massively in a multiannual research and demonstration program in the field. SUEZ has developed coal-fired electric power production stations equipped with a highly energy-efficient technology that can reduce CO2 emissions by 20%. These power stations will be capable of being fitted with local capture systems, once the institutional context has been determined on an economical and technical level.
